Teaching Assistant - Miss Ainsworth

Teaching Assistant - Miss Overton

We wish you all a warm welcome back to St. Thomas', as we begin the new school year. We will be looking to support and settle the children after our extended break into our routines and school way of life. We will be engaging in some exciting learning linked to our new topics and tackling some challenges along the way. PSHE focuses on 'Relationships' to begin with and will help the children to recognise the benefits of friendships, solve any issues and communicate with one another in a kind manner including with the use of social media.  Year 5, we will be exploring the 'Race to Space', understanding which countries and astronauts were involved and the significance of it all. In RE, we will deepen our understanding of Hinduism and consider what karma means. Our love of French will continue by learning to speak, read and write directional language for in and around a town. We will develop our physical skills through Football and Fitness and recognise the skills and benefits involved that have built on from Year 3.

Initially in Maths, we will be revisiting Place Value and recapping and embedding the value of numbers, understanding the order, rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 to name just a few parts. We are so excited for Guided Reading, where we will explore the text of Cogheart and take a journey with the main characters that may involve some futuristic ideas.

Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday so please ensure PE kit is washed and present. Long hair must be tied back and no jewellery, including watches, are to be worn.

We look forward to seeing the children again and hearing from you.

Our class novel is Cogheart by Peter Bunzel
