Term 3 - Spring - Animals
We have been trying to articulate the difference between 2D and 3D shapes using the correct vocabulary.
I wonder how many 3D shapes you can recognise around your house?
We have been catching up with our house point totals this week after adding on the points earned from their homework projects. Look at all these proud faces! Well done for earning your bronze certificates.
We have used our VIPERS skills to explore our first poem this week.
In R.E. we have continued to find out about the Islamic faith. Having found out about the Qur'an we showed off our knowledge when we played a Qur'an quiz game. Now we are moving on to learn about Allah.
We discovered that Muslims have lots of names for Allah (the Arabic for God) which describe him. Can you remember how many there are altogether?
We also found out that because Allah is so special, Muslims are not allowed to draw pictures of him and make mandala patterns instead.
This week's task saw us getting crafty. Now we know what to do we can make some more for our new animal themed reading area...watch out for the big reveal!
Look at all the certificates that have been achieved this week, we are now beginning to earn silver certificates (75 house points).
We have been practicing our recall of number bonds to 10 as being speedy at this will be important in helping the children with their mental Math as they move beyond year 1. We have been really enjoying this game 'Hit the Button' to help us. Use this link and to support your child to continue their practice at home.
This week we launched our new class names and we are proud to announce that we are...
As a class we had discussed what we feel is important and we took a class vote and Kindness won. Freddie and Emmie did a wonderful job of explaining to the rest of Key Stage 1 why we had chosen our name and how we might live out our virtue.
The Tiger Child
For our 'Animals' theme we have been extending our Geography skills this week. Building on what we learnt about maps and our local area last term we moved on to exploring the world!
We also identified where the equator is and how this can effect the climate.
After spending the last 2 weeks looking at the beautiful book 'The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse' by Charlie Mackesy we tried our hand at becoming illustrators this week.
We chose a new animal and a quote to go with it. We will be building these into our own class book.
Congratulations to this wonderful crew who have been working hard to earn house points and are now the proud owners of bronze and silver certificates.
Bringing our reading to life...
Ask your child what they can remember about meerkats - we learnt a lot!
The children are excited to bring their pots home to show to their families.
Thank you to all the parents who were able to come along and support Kindness Class.
The children had been eagerly anticipating these amazing topic boxes which Miss Pask kindly collected from Cambridge for us.
We saw teeth from a shark, a sea urchin, a cow and a dog.
We explored bones from the skeleton of a rabbit and a turkey.
We did a fabulous job of turning the Three Billy Goats Gruff into a performance for storytelling week by putting actions to the words to help us with our retelling. We included some of our favourite reading activities in our carousel for the parents to enjoy with us.
Well done to all these children who have earned bronze (50 house points), silver (75 house points) and gold (100 house points) certificates.
What a superb end we have had to a term full of hard work and fun learning.
Thank you to all the parents who were able to come and support us on our trip.
Lots of us enjoyed getting messy to complete our Art learning for this term.
Another super collection of silver and good certificates.
