Term 1

We have had a fantastic start to the term, the children have enjoyed talking to us about their 'All about me' booklet as we find out more about them and their families.

The children have been excited to explore both our indoor and outdoor environment. We are beginning to look at all things Autumnal and the exciting changes which happen during this spectacular season.

Autumn

The children have had an exciting week this week, the have done really well with their phonics learning the sounds m,a,s,t,d and finding objects and words which begin with them.

The children have been fascinated with the changes which occur during Autumn from colour changing leaves and the weather getting colder to which animals they are more likely to find.

The children have been on an Autumn walk this week trying to spot the signs of Autumn for themselves.

The children have been learning about 2D shapes this week, we have been making them with sticks, drawing them on the play ground, hunting for them in shaving foam and exploring them in other ways also.

We are having a fantastic time exploring this fantastic season, we have moved on to look at animals of Autumn, harvest and Autumnal foods. This week we have concentrated on the story of 'The Little Red Hen' with us retelling the story with actions and baking our own bread!

In Maths we have been using Numicon and looking at how to create amounts up to 10 and beginning to look at how a number past ten is made up.

The children are continuing to try really hard with dressing and undressing themselves for PE and we have begun to play some team games, the children have had to show great sportsman ship to cheer on their team mates.

The children are excited each morning to find out which sound they will be learning next in phonics and they are trying hard to use these in their writing. Welldone Reception!

During our last week of this fantastic term we looked at the story 'Pumpkin Soup' the children really enjoyed looking at this fantastic Autumnal fruit. The children enjoyed exploring the texture of it, delving their hands inside it and describing what it felt like. We finished our learning about Autumn with a senstational visit from Willoughby Foods with their tractor, the children were very excited to sit inside it and ask questions about the types of job a tractor may do on a farm. We have begun our love of reading, sharing books with one another for pleasure and beginning our sponsored read. Welldone RS you have done so well this term, embarking on your first term in school!
