This week we concluded our learning about space and what an exciting time we have had.
We have been looking at halving and doubling in maths and been writing about 'Baboon on the Moon' and 'Aliens love underpants' in Literacy.Alongside this we have been searching for real and 'alien' words in alien slime and we have had to use space bugs to help us halve objects.
We have listen to Holst 'The Planets' specifically 'Mars' the children discussed how the music made them feel, the children decided to use their bodies to show the pitch change in the music, this led them to wanting to create their own music. In PE we have been looking at controlling the ball with our feet, stopping the ball, aiming the ball and passing the ball in a controlled way to a partner.
The children took ownership of their classroom display and have created not only created a space rocket for their display but also a moon using papier mache and paint, it looks fantastic and the children are really pleased with how their room looks.
In addition to our space learning we went on a winter walk due to the hard frost which we saw, we explored the sound of walking on frosty grass adn the children took iPads and magnifying glasses with them to capture their view of winter, the children realised that they can make marks in the ice using their hands, we talked about how our breath can be seen because its warm in the cold air and how our hands make prints in a similar way because they are warm. The children looked at their photos and in their words 'They're magnificent'. Welldone RS!
