Out Of This World
Happy New Year to you all and a warm welcome into 2020.
The children were all very excited to come back to school today and they had lots of exciting things to tell us, which was lovely to hear.
Can you guess which book we shall be reading this week?
It's National Story telling week and we have chosen to read 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'.The children came to school this morning to find a crime scene set up with lots of clues. Working together the children talked about what they could see and then wrote down the clues. They had lots of amazing ideas but all came to the conclusion that it must have been Goldilocks who broke in!
We turned into artists this week learning about Kandinsky circles, look at our amazing paintings. A dinosaur also left three eggs in our classroom and we had to crack it open and inside we found baby dinosaurs which we then wrote about.
We have jumped straight into our learning this week by sharing biscuits with our friends. We can now talk about sharing equally. The children have been learning all about the Chinese New Year, they have been making and describing dragons, writing numbers in sand, filling envelopes with rice and developing their vocabulary ready to write about a dragon. This week in PE we have been learning how to control a ball with our foot.
We have had a lovely start to the week, the sun has been shining and the children have been exploring the stream and using it to retell their story from last week 'We're going on a Bear Hunt'. They have been racing boats and pretending to catch fish for their tea!
Aliens have also invaded our classroom! The children are really enjoying this weeks story 'Aliens in Underpants'. They have been creating their own aliens using playdoh, wearing funny underpants to help them be amazing writers when describing their own aliens.
This week we have been learning all about 3D shapes, we have been making them out of playdoh and polydron, matching them with everyday objects and going on a shape hunt in the playground. We have continued to look at the text 'We're going on a bear hunt' and the children have created their own zig-zag books which look amazing. The children were very excited to help rescue some animals out of ice this week, using enquiry skills to pose questions and make predictions.
We started with PE today and the children are learning all about ball skills, today they learnt how to pass a ball in different ways and bounce and catch a ball.
The children are already very excited about the book we are reading this week and have been role playing it during choosing time. They have also been learning all about 2D shapes and finding them underneath 'snow'. The interest table has been used for lots of mark making and labeling, focusing on 'dinosaurs' this week!
This term our topic is 'Out of this World' and we are very excited about the opportunities the children will be given to explore many different aspects linked to this theme. We begin by looking at the 'Arctic' and will have lots of fun exploring ice and the animals from this polar region. Then the Aliens will appear!!!! We explore space and already the children have all helped turn their role play area into an amazing space ship......
