Year One Kindness Class

Contact our teacher

Hello Kindness Class!

I am missing you all very much and I can't wait until we are able to all be back at school together. I know lots of you are working hard on activities at home. I hope you have enjoyed some of the ideas we have posted on our home learning page.

Thank you to those parents and children who have used the contact box at the top of the page. It is lovely to hear from you, what you have been doing and know you are okay. If you have any questions please do use the contact box to ask them and check back here where I will post my answers.

If you have any photos you would like to share of your learning you can use my twitter to share these or we can have some special show and tell time when we are back in class.

Please keep checking back here and on our home learning page where I will put updates, but for now enjoy the spring sunshine and have a wonderful Easter!

Dear Children and Parents,

Recently we added a plan  of various activities for you to complete should you choose, along with various links to games and activities.  Many of you have shared with us that you are reading each day which is fantastic!  As we approach the Easter holidays this will not be updated as we want you to enjoy spending time with your families and hopefully some Easter sunshine.  However from April 20th you will find a new overview to help you with your learning.

Welcome to Kindness Class

Our class teacher is Mrs Tewnion

Our teaching assistants are Mrs Eede and Miss Lucas

Food Glorious Food

Our topic this term is all about Food. In Science we are going to explore the human body and our 5 senses. This will link with our PSHE where we will be looking at growing and changing which will include considering the different needs of a baby, a child, an adult and an elderly person. In D.T. we will be using our senses to try some different fruits in order to design and make our own fruit salad. We will be learning how to prepare food safely and hygienically! In music we are going to use our bodies to compose our own rhythms using body percussion. Computing will see us learning about the tools of the Paint programme which we will then use to create our own digital art fruit pictures. In Art we are going to extend our understanding of lines and look at how we can make different lines with different media when drawing a still life picture. Geography will have us continuing to build on our knowledge and understanding of the four seasons as we consider what the weather is like in Spring, how we might experience this with our five senses and how this compares to the other seasons of the year.

P.E.

Our PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure all children have a named PE kit in school on these days. If your child wears earrings, please can these be removed or covered with plasters on these days.

Monday we have Mr Melson come to work with us and we will be doing gym.

Thursday we are doing games with Mrs Tewnion where we are developing our movement and coordination skills.

Homework

Reading books - we ensure that everyone's book has been changed every week but if your child has finished reading and they are ready for a new book then of course we are happy to help them with this. Although we would encourage children not to rush to change their books as re-reading a book can help them to build fluency and comprehension of the text.

Spellings - we will test children on their spellings each Friday and send their new words home with a practice sheet for them to use. We will start the term with spellings linked to our topic and then move on to words linked to the sounds covered in RWInc.

Homework book - This term we are sending home a project to design a healthy meal. All details can be found on the project sheet in the children's homework books. If you have any questions please speak to a member of the year 1 team. Books do not need to be returned weekly for this and we will collect them in at the end to mark the children's complete projects and award them their house points.

Water Bottles and Coats

Water bottles - the children are all able to have access to drinks throughout the day. Can we please ask that bottles for the classroom contain only water in line with school policy. However, children are able to have a second bottle in their bag if they would like to drink fruit squash at lunchtime. Please don't send fizzy drinks into school.

Coats - Although we are coming into Spring now the weather is very cold still at the moment so we ask that children continue to bring a warm coat to school with them every day. Please encourage your child to practice doing their own zip fastening if this is something they find tricky. Whilst adults are always happy to help it is much better for the children if they can be independent in this task.

A big thank you from all the adults in 1T for your ongoing support with the children's learning.
