Boston Hanse Big Dig
It was a very excited Year 4 that set off to learn how to be an archaeologist on Tuesday afternoon. We were very impressed with the professionals running the Dig, and several children now aspire to become archaeologists themselves!
There were three activities, one of which was digging so we went into the trench to see what we could unearth. Isabelle found shells, while Deivid found an animal bone. Several children found shards of pottery so it was an experience to remember.
After finding an artefact, the next job is to clean it to see if it can be identified.
Finally, we learned about the different layers of earth, and importantly, that the deeper you dig, the further back in time you go, by working collaboratively to put together a jigsaw puzzle. Subsequently, we discussed scaled drawings, then drew our own.
