Around the World - Wow Day
All of the year 1 team had a wonderful time with the children on our wow day. It was wonderful to see the children dressed in the colours of the flag from their chosen country. It was even more wonderful to hear the children talk about their chosen country and share things they knew about it.
Through the day we used our passports to visit different countries, collecting a stamp for each once we had completed our learning.
First we visited China, here we tried our writing our names in chinese characters.
Then we visited Brazil where we read 'Monkey Puzzle' by Julia Donaldson, explored images of the rainforest, listened to the rainforest and wrote setting descriptions.
Finally we visited Australia. Here we learnt a little about aboriginal people and listened to an aboriginal artist play the didgeridoo. Then we created our own aboriginal paintings.
We finished the day with an incredible tasting session of foods from around the world courtesy of the wonderful grown ups.
A big thank you to all the parents who supported our wow day by sending in some food for us to try and thank you to all those parents who came along and joined in with the tasting! We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
