All Aboard Noah's Boat
This term we shall be reading the story of 'Noah's Ark' and linking this to floating and sinking. The texts we shall be looking at will be all about minibeasts. Our focus in Maths this term will be mainly on number, addition and subtraction. PE will continue to be on a Monday so please remember your child's PE kit.
This week in PE the children have been learning how to travel and move in different ways, alongside learning how to jump and land safely. They crawled like caterpillars and hopped like a grasshopper. In the lovely weather the children have taken their learning outside, splashing in the stream and role playing using different props. We have also begun to look at some of the amazing homework projects that the children have been making.
Exciting news! We got lots of new books this week and the children are really enjoying reading them and sharing them with their friends.
What an exciting start to the week, we have been minibeast hunting and we found spiders, slugs, snails, ladybirds and woodlouse. The children have used the magnifying glasses to observe these minibeasts and have then been independently writing about them during child initiated time. They have also made their own caterpillars!
In maths this week we have been learning how to subtract. We have begun by using lots of practical resources to help us.
The children have had lots of fun this week creating their own butterflies and caterpillars. They have also been working hard helping Mrs Smith to paint our own giant 'Hungry Caterpillar' for our display. World book day was celebrated with everyone dressing up and sharing their passion for reading!
Today we have been learning how to add numbers together, we have been using ladybirds, grab mats, fish bowls and lots of practical resources to help us solve addition number sentences. This afternoon during child initiated time we have been splashing in the stream and racing boats with each other. The children worked together to solve the problem of making the stream go faster by clearing the leaves from under the bridge.
The children had lots of fun exploring numbers with numicon, unifix cubes and dice. They all made and tasted pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.
