Welcome to 1T
Our class teacher is Mrs Tewnion
Our teaching assistants are Mrs Eede and Miss Lucas
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you, wherever you go." NIV Joshua 1:9
Our topic this term is all about toys past and present. We will be exploring materials and their properties in science as we discover what our toys are made of now and what they were made of in the past. We will be discovering how toys have changed over time and using our design skills to create our own toy using recycled materials.
Our PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure all children have a named PE kit in school on these days. If your child wears earrings, please can these be removed or covered with plasters on these days.
Monday we have Mr Melson come to work with us on our ball control skills including how to pass a ball in different ways.
Thursday we are doing gymnastics with Mrs Tewnion where we are developing our balance skills to be able to move in different ways.
Reading books - we try to change these twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children can earn house points for reading at home and we encourage them to read a little bit each night as this is a brilliant way to practice the skills taught in school.
Spellings - we will test children on their spellings each Friday and send their new words home with a practice sheet for them to use. Spellings will include key topic vocabulary as well as year 1 common exception words and our RWInc red (tricky) words.
Homework book - This term we will be sending home weekly homework activities. These will be sent home on a Friday and we ask that the children return their books on a Wednesday. All completed homework returned on a Wednesday is worth a house point!
Thank you to everyone who sent in their summer project. Mrs Tewnion has really enjoyed looking at your posters and learning about you and your families.
Water Bottles and Coats
Water bottles - the children are all able to have access to drinks throughout the day. Can we please ask that bottles for the classroom contain only water in line with school policy. However, children are able to have a second bottle in their bag if they would like to drink fruit squash at lunchtime. Please don't send fizzy drinks into school.
Coats - As we go into autumn and the weather is quickly becoming colder children should be sent to school with a coat each day. Please ensure this coat is named clearly to keep it safe.
A big thank you from all the adults in 1T for your ongoing support with the children's learning.
