What makes a fizzy drink fizzy?

Year 4 found out the answer to this question - carbon dioxide! Then we investigated which fizzy drink was the fizziest. Predictions mainly centred on guessing that branded drinks would be the fizziest (coke and 7UP). We worked out that the fizziest drink would be the one with the most carbon dioxide in so in small groups we weighed each drink, then shook it to remove the gas and reweighed it. There was a surprise winner!

By quite a margin (5g compared to 2g and 1g for the others), Tesco value lemonade was the fizziest drink out of the five we tested. Setting up a fair test, using the clock for timing, weighing accurately were just some of the skills practised in this fun investigation.
